[OT] Windows XP UPgrade - Quick Question

For anyone who has purchased the retail copy of Windows XP upgrade, do you
know if the upgrade can be installed on a blank hard drive? I have a
machine with an OEM copy of ME installed that just died. If I am going to
format and reinstall I want to do it with a better OS. I figure the upgrade
is cheaper than the full version but I don't want to install ME just to
upgrade to XP. Anyone know? Thanks
