Hello we are experiencing slow preview times for reports standard and customised by epicor is this common or has someone managed to fix it

We have always found Epicor reporting to be slow. Just how slow are you experiencing for what size report?

@pompe4040 There is a setting in the sysconfig file called SystemMonitorPriorityDuration that defaults to 15 seconds that could help you. If a job is submitted, but finishes in 18 seconds it will next look in another 30 seconds, so it appears to take 45 seconds.
To @Nancy_Hoyt’s point the process is multistep in that the request is processed on the server and dropped in a location for the client to poll and pickup, so it is not like printing a document from your PC.

~SUMMARY:
Experience shows that increasing the Duration to 90,000 or 120,000 in conjunction with reducing the Processing Delay to 3 seconds on the System Agent can have a dramatic effect on improving the overall time for client-side related tasks to complete.
