Jim and Diane:
I'm way behind here, but that's what we do: create a mf part number, stock
it, then issue it to the top assy when the time comes. Works well for us
and doesn't get our costing all messed up. Plus, it lets us follow outside
processes and lot numbers on our "partially completed" stocked items.

Diane, why wouldn't you receive the incomplete parts to inventory as a
different part#. That way, when you get the order to ship the item, you
issue the "incomplete part" or create as a subassembly on the finished part
plus whatever it takes to finish the job.
