Question about Quality Control Module

I assume you are all refering to "First Article". In Job Entry, at
each operation, you can set the First Article Quantity. Vantage
canned shop warnings and global alerts then notify production and
quality when First Articles exist. The help file explains a little
more on how it is processed (as it differs if you are using MES).

Either way...because of the break quantities you may need to create
the same operation mutliple times to account for each break in qty.

In other words, if you are planning to produce 1,000 (in total) but
on every 100 you want a first article inspection...then you would
need 10 operations (100 each) and each flagged as first article for
10 pcs.

I have a simple question about how to setup the system so that the
material is inspected after a each batch of units is completed. For
instance, if we are doing a milling operation on 100 units, can we
setup the system in such a way that after each 10 units are finished
with the milling process, an inspection needs to be carried out by the
Quality Control team? I was told by our implementation company that
they would also look into this. They initially thought that it is
only possible to do a quality check after each process is complete.
In our case, milling may be the only operation and we don't want to
wait until all the 100 pieces are completed with milling to do a
quality check.
Set up the expected 10 pieces in your milling operation as the first
piece quantity. When you log into the operation under setup, the
inspection will show up on the inspection panel within QC. Run the 10
pieces under setup. Once approved by inspection, you can run the other
90 under production.

Charlie,

Namish wants OP inspection triggered very 10 pc's - not just "1st pc" after the intial 10 of 100 are produced.

Vantage 8 (through 403c) doesn't support this common manufacturing OP inspection pradigm.

Another common OP inspection paradigm unsupported is to trigger in process OP inspections on a routine time schedule such as 1st pc at shift start, mid-day inspection and (in the case of pallet loaded or bar fed CNC equipment that will continue to run unattended after the shift ends) end of shift inspection.

Epicor would be wise to work on supporting this in the future as, frankly, their current Inspection/DMR processing is anemic.

We may tackle supporting these more realistic paradigm's in the future via customization. Until then, all our customizations are focused upon gaping critical holes in Vantage (and we can handle the OP inspections offline).

Yep I misread the message. And you are correct, Epicor Manufacturing
will not handle sample programs.

What I have done with clients in this case is to have them manually
enter the inspection as a "first piece" record so that the sampling can
be entered. The first piece inspection would then be set up as one for
the initial notification and 1st piece process. Then when into
production the remaining inspections are manual entries if an inspection
record is desired.

The basic problem is that Epicor manufacturing not only does not know
the production sample plan, but there is no way of knowing when the
sample is to be triggered unless you do some kind of quantity recording
through MES.

A custom could probably be written where you could set up some custom
fields in the Part BOO (and in turn the Job BOO) for the sample plan and
then report quantities when sample quantities are hit which could
trigger an email to inspection. Something along those lines. You would
still have to notify the system that the trigger quantity has been hit
through MES and that could get to be a problem for operations.
