Remote printing

That's a lack of ability to connect. Chances are it's got to do with the
type of connection, not all uplinks for remote connections are truly full
duplex, many times the resolution of names and such doesn't fully resolve
across the remote connection.

Why are you trying to put it on the remote server?

I understand that it would possibly benefit the remote users but these
locations should be a location where all users can access, if you set it to
a remote server then all your local users are going to be using that remote
server as well, which could be anti-productive overall.

I have actually done what you suggested, i.e. change the Server and Client
file directory in the system agent. It does not work and I did make sure
that the user defined for the appservers has authority to the remote file
location. The file is not even created on the remote system. Maybe I am
doing something wrong but if I am I sure don't know what it is.

I have set it up to use a different server locally and it works fine. It is
just when I try to use the remote server. I agree that it looks like an
authority problem but again, I just can't find it.

Thanks for you suggestions,

Although I agree with you about mapped drives vs. UNC's, it has caused me
problems when some wiseass network admin decides to migrate all the data to
a new server with a new name. I had that happen at least once, and all my
code started erring out when files could not be found. This particular
network admin wanted everyone to map the root of the server to a particular
drive. Then remapping solves the can't find a file problem. My response was
that the new server should have been named the same as the old server.
Besides, there is a reason they call them PERSONAL computers!

Mapped Drives are bad, they are never standard so it's not a good way to
do
it. UNC all the way!

There are 2 entries in the SystemTaskAgent where you need to make the
update.

The Server File Directory and the Client Server Directory, these are the 2
settings that dictate where the server puts the file, and where the client
looks for the file.

On top of this, you also have a permissions issue, you need to make sure
the
Admin Service is running by a user who has permission to write to the
location you want to use.

I assume you are on 8.0x or newer, I am not sure about 6.1 or before.

We have a company with remote access to Vantage. I have been trying to get
Vantage to create the XML data file on a remote machine but have been
unsuccessful. I have tried both a mapped drive and a UNC but neither will
work. The XML file is not even created by the server. I get an error from
Crystal Reports that it cannot find the path to the file located on
C:\mfgsysdata\Reports\Username\xxxxxxx.xml. I have no idea why it would
think the file should be on the C: drive but that is the error. I would
like for the file to be located a server that is local to the user,
especially since Crystal Reports reads throught the data twice to create
the
report. Small reports are not a problem but large reports that read and
process lots of data do take a long time to be generated.

Has anyone tried to do this and been successful? If so how did you
accomplish it?

Thank you in advance,

The path is always relative to the server, where the XML is created.
I think you'd have to map a drive to the remote machine drive and then create a mapping with the same drive letter on the remote machine to itself. Not sure why you'd do this.
