Remote printing

If you could please send me the screen shots, I'd sure appreciate it. I
tried what you suggested - step by step - and still can't seem to find the
local computer/printer on the remote system. :-(

Does it make a difference if the local computer I was working on was XP
rather than 7?

Thanks!!

From the remote desktop connections - select Options from the left bottom of
the
screen.

Then select the local Resources tab.
Check the box for printers
Select the more button under printers - to add the local drives
Check the drives checkbox to be able to access the local hard drives
Check the other supported plug and play devices to be able to access the USB

flash drives

Hit ok.
Then select the Gereral tab and hit save to save these settings. (Very
important that the settings be saved - do not select save as)

Now when you use remote desktop then you should be able to select the local
printers (Usually it will be the default)
You will be able to read / write to your local hard drives - they show up as

attached drives.

If you have to install drivers on the workstation at the office then just
use
lpt1 port. It will be redirected when you remote in from home.
The install is just to get the drivers on the workstation. (I have not had
to
install the drivers after going to Windows 7 - only on old versions of RDP
back
on Windows XP)

I can send you the screenshots of the setups if you need.
I use it all the time and with many different printers / machines

Mark,

I'm trying to find something a little less cumbersome - sometimes there are
literally hundreds of pages that need to be printed.

But, I'm willing to try anything. As a non-techie..could you please explain
a little further the "shared disc feature"?

Thanks!!!

Honestly, I Print Preview, export to PDF and use the shared disc
feature of RDP to copy to my home machine to view or print. Not
technically spectacular but it can save your butt when you need to
reprint.

Ugh... I hate dealing with home printers and RDP.

To get it to work you must get the model of the home printer and install the drivers for it on the computer the user is connecting to. This must happen for every user you are doing this for.

If they have something like a photosmart or all-in-one printer chances are you will have to install the entire suite to get the driver out of it. Once the correct driver has been installed the next time the user logs in their home printer should be listed.

However I do have to point out that some all-in-one printers will not work over RDP. This is more of a rare occurrence, but I have ran into it several times. In addition if a user disconnects from the RDP session due to internet connection failing they will have to log out of the remote machine and then log it back in for the printer to function again.

If its an autoprint feature that you are trying to do then you will be hard out of luck as that must be defined within Epicor/vantage.

If its just general report printing the user can do a print preview and then from there print and select their printer to print to.

Windows XP:
Go to Control Panel
Open Printers and Faxes
Click File and select server properties
Select Drivers Tab
Select Add
Go through the prompts
When asked for the printer click Have Disk
Locate where you have the driver saved/extracted
If the driver supports multiple printers the next screen will ask you to select a printer model
When completed the driver tab should now list the printer in it.
