Scale readouts and Vantage

I agree. The keyboard wedge was offered as a solution to us when we
asked how we could get all the data from incoming & outgoing material
shipments flawlessly entered into Vantage from barcode scanners. We have
not done this yet, but the company that showed us the option to do this
is Universal Data at 248-634-4000.

Your application for a single field input sounds reasonably easy to
implement.

Good luck.

Happy Friday Folks,
A general question. Has anyone in the group set up their floor
scales
to feed data fields in Vantage, or is Vantage such that humans have to
be
the input interface. I need to decide how to get weight data from the
scale
into Vantage. (custom programing is not likely to be an option).

Could someone please provide me with a batch file command that will
disconnect all mapped drives. I would like to include this command in my NT
user login script.
I have some users who know how to map drives and occasionally I will find a
directory mapped to multiple drive letters.

Another trick I have found handy is to include the $ after the share name so
that users won't see the share listed in network neighborhood. We hide
everything on our servers.

As long as I'm typing:

What would work is a "wedge".

This device connected between the keyboard, computer and device you are
using. Input from the device looks like input from the keyboard. The
software does not know or care that it is really coming from somewhere else.

To collect labor data, the employees get to the right screen & field, (start
activity), scan the barcode (Job, Assy, Oper, all in one barcode), and
voila, the data is entered.

For collecting SPC data, they would click on the right cell in a
spreadsheet, take the reading, press "Send" on the gauge, and the data is
flawlessly entered. If you set the Enter (or tab) behavior of Excel, it even
moves from cell to cell correctly.

For your scale, once set up, they would go to the right Vantage Screen &
field, put the object on the scale, hit "Send" (enter, go, accept, whatever
the button sez) and the data will magically appear in Vantage.

No custom program, no special hardware (other then a scale with a serial
output and a serial port on the PC).

I used google.com and typed in Keyboard Wedge and got a lot of good info.
(http://www.microridge.com/wedgelink.htm looks pretty interesting. I have
not used it).

Good Luck,
