Setting up vantage on a stand alone lap top

Dan,
Basically, you do everything just like on your Live server -- except that when you do the client install, you 'uncheck' the install progress part (since it was installed during the database install). So, you install the database from the CD (Progress and Vantage), then you do a client install on the same PC, but skip the Progress part of the Client install.

During the install you can choose either TCP or Single install. I choose TCP since I may want to have Vantage running as well as ODBC and Report Builder.

Does anyone have a procedure for doing a stand-alone setup of Vantage on
a laptop or test workstation? The only instructions I have been able to
find are rather sketchy and refer you back to the network installation
for certain info about client setup etc... I've tried it on my home pc
running XP Pro and just can't seem to get it going. Thanks in advance.

Ian,

You can backup the database using the Vntgbkup.bat or Probkup.bat and
then
copy that to the laptop. Then restore the database using Prorest.bat.
If
you have any questions I can walk you through it. Just email me offline
and
I'll send you my phone number.

Dear all,
I have loaded our sister companies version of Vantage 4 on to a lap top
to
enable them to have a look at the system. All the appropriate patches
have
been loaded and I can get Vantage to come up on the screen in its raw
form,
in other words how it looked to us 2 years ago before all the data was
added. The next step is to copy our data onto the lap top so that they
can
get a true idea of the functionality etc.. I have tried copying d1, b1
and
vantage but when pasted into the Db file, run prostrct, I have found
that
only the vantage splash screen will appear. Tried looking at pro-control
and
keep getting the error 1231. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Ian
