Agreed on the high end.
How about Microsoft buy Great Plains and NuVision on the low to mid end of
the scale. What happens when MS puts 500 developers into it's MRP package
running on SQL server and fully integrated into MS-Office / Exchange / Web
server etc etc etc ?
Just how will any of the small to mid range software companies compete?
Most of them can't touch MS in terms of development dollars.
Won't be tomorrow or the next day but if MS is serious then 2-4 years will
likely put them in command of the low end.

I think Epicor is so far beneath these guys radar it will be awhile before
their "tactics" are an issue. The typical SAP implementation costs more
than our annual revenues. The small to mid-market would not be a very good
buy of customer base. Could a one-man IT shop like me implement any of
these systems? Not a chance. There is no ROI on such systems for us.
Epicor may evaporate on the upper fringe where it borders on the large
manufacturing sector but should only grow in the larger small-mid sector.
Given the recent run up in EPIC stock there must be some sentiment in the
investment community that evaporation is less likely than getting bought or
capturing a market segment. Just my couple cents on it.

"We're after their people, their customers, and we're after money...We'll
get hundreds of millions in savings by buying PeopleSoft, and that might be
understated. [Never, Larry]...We're going through a phase of consolidation,
no question about it...The best companies will be the giants-the Microsofts,
the Oracles, the HPs, the Suns, the SAPs-the survivors, and they will buy
the tier below them, PeopleSoft and companies like that. But there is
another tier below that-like i2. You have to figure out who gets bought and
who just evaporates. There will be more that evaporate, like Ariba, Commerce
One, and i2...Siebel's the last of the best of breed companies and I'm not a
big fan. Best of breed is dead, except for dog shows."
Will EPICOR just "Evaporate" in this war?
