I created a new account with a local ISP. The first day I opened it up,
before typing my e-mail address in any web site, I had numerous spam
messages, many offensive. Many of the spam messages were from yahoo.com
domains. In my case, the spam I received had nothing to do with my
affiliation with yahoo or yahoo groups.
My Kinematic address is registered with yahoo as my receiving address for
list messages, and I receive ZERO unsolicited spam messages.
I do not believe that anyone's joining a this yahoo group has any
correlation with how much spam they get.
You may want to have your vantage messages rerouted to another account, such
as hotmail. Hotmail actually has a pretty decent spam filter. There are
other free mail services with spam protection.
I'm almost willing to bet that if you make your list messages come to an
account with your local mail server, your amount of SPAM will be unaffected.
It is possible to ditch your yahoo.com e-mail address, without ditching the
vantage list. That's the course of action I would recommend.

The person sending the original message IS using their yahoo account (and
email) for the list, however. Using a different (non yahoo or hotmail)
email address would probably resolve the spam issue. It's the yahoo email
address, not this list that is collecting (and causing) the spam. Getting
off this list won't stop the spam on that yahoo account for sure.

I don't think you have to sign up for email when you join this list. I
get
these messages but I don't have an email account with yahoogroups. At
least
I don't think so. I tried to check my email and it prompted me to set up
an
email account.

I think it's the signing up for your Yahoo account (and it's email) that
gets you the spam. This is a requirement for being on the Yahoo List.
The
spam comes on the yahoo email. I use a different email for the Yahoo list
and haven't gotten any spam on it. My Yahoo email, however, has hundreds
of
spam emails. I check it once in a blue moon and then remember why I don't
use it.

Subject: [Vantage] Trash thanks to Yahoo
Well folks, its been quick. Since joining this Yahoo group for
Vantage I have gotten some really trashy email. Today's email has a
notation at the bottom that my address was obtained from an "opt in
list (whatever that is). Anyway I'm dropping out of this group and
any association with Yahoo. I can't have this junk coming into my
workplace. Wish you all well.
Regards
Shirley
