Volo viewer - autocad

Why worry about AutoCAD, use PDF's, it so much easier to user than Volo...
Furthermore, all document types can be accessed when convert to PDF,
regardless of the application which originated the document...

We have been using electronic job packets now for 6-9months and it keeps
getting better and better. : )

John,

We just went through the exact same issue and were unable to resolve the
issue. I believe there is a upgrade/pro version of VoloView that gives you
this option but you have to pay for that version. Funny how that works.

Taking the same drawing and printing it using AutoView with the "Default"
pen settings the prints came out perfectly. And no, AutoView is not free.

There is no such thing as a free lunch ?

I have been observing the group since August and found it to be a valuable
resource. We commence implementation of Vantage 5.1 in March.

I downloaded VOLO VIEWER after reading the thread last week. We want to
access drawings over our VPN and print them locally. I'm fine with accessing
the drawings however I cannot find a way to set the print quality locally.
It appears that you need a plotter otherwise you get default pen weights
which are too light to read. Any ideas?

Is anybody using Volo Viewer (free) to link AutoCad documents in Vantage
rather than Autoview ($$$)?

If so, could you tell me how you set this up? I know you have to go to
System Management > Configuration Maintenance > Document Association. Here
Select Edit and Add. However, what information needs to be typed in here
for: Extension, Description, View Command and Print Command?

Thanks in advance,

That's what I found as well. If your path is e:\documents and settings\files\test.dwg

We are using Volo View with the Vantage Document Manager. With Document
Association contained under the System Manager we have associated the dwg
extension with the view command of "voloview.exe &1".

Todd,
That way doesn't work either. The error message says,

Failed to open E:\"Documents

Here's what I found DOES work.

If your file is in the path: e:\documents and settings\files\test.dwg
Enter this instead: e:\docume~1\files\test.dwg

On a long filename, chop off the folder at the sixth character and add "~1".
If there is another folder with the same 6 characters, use "~2", etc.
That is the DOS way of specifying long filenames.

SOLUTION: To be be able to use long filenames in Document Association, you need to embed the parameter (&1) in quotes as in:

So the view command in Document associations should be:

voloview.exe "&1" or you could use
winword.exe "&1"

Then, in your actual path name where you are associating the document, you can use the full path, including any spaces, without needing quotes or DOS Short names. As in:

e:\documents and settings\files\test.dwg

I have been observing the group since August and found it to be a valuable
resource. We commence implementation of Vantage 5.1 in March.

I downloaded VOLO VIEWER after reading the thread last week. We want to
access drawings over our VPN and print them locally. I'm fine with accessing
the drawings however I cannot find a way to set the print quality locally.
It appears that you need a plotter otherwise you get default pen weights
which are too light to read. Any ideas?

I'm not sure about Volo Viewer but in in AutoVue you can over ride the pen
widths with minimums. We use .01, I have not found such a setting on the
screens for Volo Viewer.

John,

VoloView Express doesn't give the same control over printing compared to
VoloView 2. We found it necessary to upgrade to the full version of
VoloView (currently ver.2) to acheive the control pver our print quality.
We have a wide variety of drawing sizes which were formatted to a variety of
output devices. Voloview 2 supports system printers, fitting to a page and
setting the drawing to monochrome. It is kind of a (AutoCad LT)-LT.
Express is really only effective as a viewer and not as a bridge to your
printer.

Subject: RE: [Vantage]VOLO VIEWER - AUTOCAD

I have been observing the group since August and found it to be a valuable
resource. We commence implementation of Vantage 5.1 in March.

I downloaded VOLO VIEWER after reading the thread last week. We want to
access drawings over our VPN and print them locally. I'm fine with accessing
the drawings however I cannot find a way to set the print quality locally.
It appears that you need a plotter otherwise you get default pen weights
which are too light to read. Any ideas?
