I had a similar problem with a computer and the problem was with the memory chip.

We have a new computer running Windows XP Pro. Yesterday, it began to shut itself down with no warning. When it does this it displays a blue screen that states that "a problem has been detected and windows was shut down to prevent damage to the computer." This is followed by a statement that I think describes the cause. Near the end of the statement is a stop code. What is this screen trying to tell me, and how can I determine the cause of this event?

Thank you for your help

What is the stop code?

You can enter the stop code into google (www.google.com) and review the
search results.

A stop code generally means a Hardware issue. Has anything changed on
that pc lately - New drivers, video card?
The fact that it is shutting itself down may indicate a bad power
supply.

Ask the vendor to fix it, or exchange that P.O.S. XP for Win 200 Pro.

If you look in event viewer, there should be a bugcheck for the system
shutdown. You can search the Microsoft Knowledgebase for that number and
possibly come up with some ideas.

I had a similar problem on a Compaq with XP Pro. We determined it started
when we attached a host based Oki 8Z laser printer. It went away when
replaced with an HP 1200.
