5.1 to 5.2 (live buckup, conversion)

There should be a routine in the Epic51\Vantage folder called BACKVN.BAT that runs vntgbkup in online mode. The guts of backvan.bat are:
-------------------------------------------
echo Running Backup...
@echo off
C:
cd \epic51\progress\bin
vntgbkup online C:\epic51\vantage\db\vantage C:\backup\backup.1
------------------------------------------
you can probably modify this to backup to a different location and just run it. The prorest it to the new DB location

vntgbkup.bat in the progress\bin folder in turn runs the actual backup commands for online or offline backup. One note - when I converted from 4.0 to 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 somewhere along the way it did not correctly name the EPICxx folder in the batch command files so I had to double check them to assure they were referencing the correct places.

Hope this helps,
-Todd C.

Hi,

I'm in the early stages of upgrading from 5.1 to 5.2, I have 5.2 running
on a new server and I was wondering if there were some instructions on how
to do a live backup on 5.1 so I don't have to stop 5.1 and production and
then move the backup to the new server and convert to data into 5.2

In the instructions it assumes you can stop the 5.1 data base and also
assumes that this is all done on the same server. I do recall back in the
version 4 days you could do a live backup and convert to the latest version
of vantage on any server the the instructions were pretty easy to follow
