I had the exact problem 2 yrs ago when we setup a Metaframe server. Our
problem was that the Citrix server was connecting to the 100Mhz Hub at
full duplex (you can only use full duplex on switches) ... I manually
switched it to half duplex and it worked perfectly. This may not be
your problem, but you might check it out.

We just installed a Citrix server and exerything went smoothly until we
installes Vantage. I installed per instructions as an Administrator thru
ADD/Remove programs but otherwise the same as any other workstation.
Everything runs fine except for Vantage. It takes about 4 minutes to get to
a sign in screen and another 2 ot three minutes to get to the main menu.

Support is scratching their heads and sent me some instructions (doc 490MPS)
to install clients over terminal server & metaframe. It looks exactly like
what we did so I called back. Their only response was to install all the
Vantage executables on the Citrix but that doesn't sound right. Anybody got
some advice?

BTW - Vantage 4.00.904
- Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server sp 6
- Citrix 1.8 feature rel w/sp 2
- Citrix server is Compaq 370 with 1.0 Gb RAM and two P3 800
processors
- NICs are 10/100
- Vantage Server is also dual processor running NT 4.0 sp 5
Vantage needs to be installed through add-remove programs on
terminalserver/citrix users.

I did that to but when i try to access vantage through citrix it says it
can't find the S: drive. S: drive is located on the main server. According
to epicor you have to create user folders on the citrix machine. Arghghghgh.
If anyone has real simple instructions on how to set this up I would really
appreciate it. you can e-mail to mtrzaska@....

I almost have it working but it's driving me nuts. Any help is greatly
appreciated.

Go to Windows 2000 termenal server, it's a lot less complicated and works really fast.

I have read with modest interest over the last several months the
discussions concerning remote access to Vantage. I am now faced with the
real probability of doing this. Our parent corp completed the purchase of a
small & simple mfg company in North Carolina. My company is located in SW
Ohio. The parent corp wants us to provide access to Vantage for the NC
facility. We are, at this point, looking at 2-3 users in NC. I would like
the group's opinions on the options available concerning issues such as
reliability, cost, security, speed, support (by me), and anything else I
have overlooked. No matter what route we take, additional Vantage licenses
will be needed (2-3) as we are pretty much maxed out. NC would be added as
a seperate company within the existing database. I am told that actual
connect time would be less than 2-4 hours / day / user but concurrent. Here
are the options as I see them.

1. Have several dial-up lines installed to access workstations setup
specifically for them via some type of remote control software. Could be PC
Anywhere, VNC or any others you might suggest.

2. Setup a Terminal server / Citrix server at our end with dial-up.

3. Same as #2, with some other type of connection ( frame relay, VPN,
internet?)

Any and all suggestions welcomed.

2-3 PC's - 2 to 4 hours per day

I'd use 3 pc's in home office linked to 3 pc's at remote using PcAnywhere
configured as a TCP/IP connect. Note that the 3 pc's in the home office do
not need monitors.

For a line I'd would use a 128K ISDN connect on demand circuit.

Put a small Cisco router on each end.

I would agree with what Todd has said here. Here are my variations to this.

I wouldn't do anything over dial-up without Citrix. Things will just be way
too slow.
If you use any direct option (Internet, dial-on-demand ISDN, etc.) to
connect, then you can use VNC to the 2-3 PC's that you would setup in your
shop for access. This avoids the PC Anywhere expense. I've never been a
big fan of PC Anywhere, way too much overhead, but it is still a very usable
product.

You can also configure the Vantage software on a local server in NC and have
the database on your server in OH. Calvin and I have successfully connected
to databases remotely over the Internet, there is no noticeable difference
in speed during normal operation. It is noticeable when a browser is
launched or a Report Builder report is ran. Let us know if you are
interested in this.

As far as the 2-3 additional users that you might need to purchase from
Epicor, have you considered configured the new company in it's own database?
You can run multiple databases with the same number of users. (This is what
you are currently doing with your training DB and your live DB)

Let me know off-line if you have any more questions,
