Citrix w/Terminal Server

Sarah

We have been using Citrix for about 6 months. It is reliable (except you
need to reboot it daily). It will cure your printing problems.

Citrix requires NT Terminal Server, or Win 2000. So you can just install
Citrix on your existing Terminal Server. (Make sure you order the version of
Citrix that matches your TS operating system)

You can install and setup Citrix, including publishing Vantage in about a
day on the server. Then just setup your clients (about 5 mins. Each)

As far as problems with this go, I think it is a very good solution. Users
that use the keyboard primarily will on occasion have an issue where a
screen is hidden behind another screen. The user has to (alt + tab) or move
screens with the mouse to find the active screen. But that has been very
rare for us. The setup should be very similar to that of your existing
Terminal Server, so I don't see where you should have any problems setting
it up.

I think you're heading in the right direction.

Subject: [Vantage] Citrix w/Terminal Server

We have been using Terminal Server at our remote site since April.
Recently, we brought on our second remote site, and are using
Terminal Server there as well. We are now having remote printing
issues.

We would now like to install Citrix to hopefully resolve some of those
issues. If anybody is using Terminal Server with Citrix, could you
please answer a couple of questions for me?

1.) From your experience, will Installing Citrix be a reliable
solution and will it help alleviate our Terminal Server printing
issues?
2.) Can we install Citrix directly on top of our existing Terminal
Server Application, or does it have to be installed separately?
3.) Any approximation on how long the Citrix install and set-up will
take?
4.) Are there any problems that you can foresee or that you have
experienced that we should be aware of before beginning this task?

Thank you so much for any feedback you can provide as this is
becoming a huge issue for us!

Thanks!!

Sarah

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report Files,
please go to the following link: http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/
(Note: If this link does not work for you the first time you try it, go to
www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password, choose My Groups,
choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the password, the link above
will work the next time you try it.)

I have installed Citrix overtop of NT 4.0 Terminal Server and it is working
great. I was running strictly TS but had the printing problem as well. I
now have the remote printing capability and little to no client disconnect
problems like I did with just TS.

1. Yes more reliable in my opinion and printing is fine. Only catch is
that you need the printer drivers preinstalled in the server so that they
are auto-created and auto connected. There may be ways around that issue
but I haven't had a need to investigate. I installed a generic HP DeskJet
and LaserJet driver and have all my remote users from home install the same.
You lose some special print options, color options and the like but is is
much easier then having 30 printers installed for every version of printer
in use.

2. I installed directly overtop. Didn't make any changes to any services.

3. Under a hour. Went very smoothly.

4. I had none.

I don't claim to be the best resource on thin client networking, but this
was so easy to install, configure, and launch that I was amazed.
