Crystal Reports 8.5 vs. Dell XP Professional OEM

Lee,

Thanks for the feedback. No, I'm not running Best Fixed Assets on
my workstation, or anything else that would use Crystal.

However, the worst-performing workstation is linked into our Product
Configurator application, and that does use Crystal, I believe.

I'll have to look into that.

Are you sure it is safe to upgrade Crystal to 8.5.3.975? The
support folks are always so adamant that you be on 8.5.2.718. I'm
glad it worked for you, but I'm a bit leery of trying it myself.
(Actually, at this point, I wouldn't even want to load Solitaire
onto my workstation!)

Thanks,
Theresa

Hello,

I am still trying to resolve the issue of not being able to compile
Crystal Reports 8.5.718 properly after having gotten a new Dell
workstation. In mid-December, I got a new Dell Optiplex 745 with
the factory-installed Windows XP Professional OEM and Service Pack
2. We are on Vantage 6.1.541.

Since then, I cannot compile usable reports for anyone with a new
PC, only the very oldest.

I have been in touch with 5 or 6 of the support team at Epicor.
They believe it's a dll problem, but nothing we try is working.

Has anyone heard of compatibility problems between Crystal Reports
8.5.718 and the Windows XP Professional OEM that comes with new Dell
PC's?

Thanks,

They probably had you try this, but have you done a search for the
p2bxbse.dll, and p2sodbc.dll on the old machine. Do the same search on
the new machine. Overwrite the .dlls on the new machine from the old
machine.

Hope this helps

Theresa,

Are you by chance also running Best (FAS) Fixed Assets on that Optiplex
or any other application that uses Crystal Runtime dll's? (p2sodbc.dll
and p2bxbse.dll) I used to have to switch the dll's depending upon
whether I wanted to run Crystal 8.5 or Best Fixed Assets.

I subsequently spoke to Crystal support then patched my Crystal from
8.5.2.718 to 8.5.3.975 and have experienced very few problems since.

Well,

In a way I'm glad that I'm not the only one suffering from this
dilemma. I suspect as people buy more and more machines this will
become more prevalent in the Vantage community. Hopefully this thread
will get more traction as administrators encounter more of these problems.

I have been corresponding with a Vantage support specialist. She
forwarded me this solution along with several others that I have yet
to try. She was persistent in having me re-write the report in
8.5.2.718.

I copied the dlls mentioned booted in safe mode at the command line
level and dumped these two files in the locations suggested and to no
avail the reports still come up in error. I tried opening te reports
in the updated version of Crystal. Saving the report under a
different name and reassociating it in Vantage and it still comes up
in error. Try the fix below and see if it helps. Meanwhile I'll try
the other "fixes" and see if I get any resolution.

Summary: CR Various Crystal forms are missing information
Book: Support Solutions
Page: 2353MPS

Page 2353MPS

XA610
XA600
XA520

These are standard Crystal forms in Application version 6.xx or 5.20.
If the customer has Crystal Reports 8.5, check the version. It should
be 8.5.2.718 only. Versions prior to the 8.5.2.718 were known to cause
data to disappear.

The customer can download the latest hot fix; cr85mainwin_en.zip and
the compile and distribute patch for 8.5: scr8_distr_expert.exe from:
\MFG6\crystal\crystal85_all_patches.zip on the ftp site,
ftpmpls.epicor.com. All of these should be applied - first the
CR85mainwin0902_EN.zip, then the scr8_distr_expert.exe, and finally
the Crystal Decisions Database and Export Patch.exe.

If you still have problems with Crystal forms dropping data even with
the appropriate patch as stated above, do a search on the problem
workstation for: msvcp60.dll and p2bxbse.dll. Check the version of
each of these files and compare it to the version of the files in the
eMFG\dll folder or \MfgSys60\dll or \mfgsys61\dll folder. If the
versions differ, rename the files on the workstation and copy the
files from the eMFG\dll folder or \MfgSys60\dll or \mfgsys61\dll folder.

It may be necessary delete the contents of the local working
directory. For 6.00, that is the C:\epicor\mfgwk60 folder. For 6.10,
that is the C:\epicor\mfgwrk61 folder.

If you have questions on this process, call technical support.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These patches would be applied to the
workstations that have Crystal Reports installed only.

But the two .DLLs referenced above may need to be replaced on any
Windows machine that does not have Crystal Reports installed. It will
also be necessary to empty the local working directory.

Best regards,

Jose

Bruce,

Thanks much. We did try this, as you thought. At this point, I've
actually crashed one of the Epicor support workstations with one of
my test reports, so they can't run any Crystal Reports on that
workstation. They are trying to fix it.
