Days Out (Outside Processing)

We send an operation drawing with every subcontract order showing exactly
what they are to do and what spec's are to be met, etc. Then we use the
comment field very heavily to explain what they are to work to, rev levels
included, serial numbers, etc. the pack list generally just shows the
serial numbers and the PO it matches up with. You are right, I would
rather the PO didn't pull the finished part and that revision. Every new
vendor has to be told why that is there. i.e. "the computer is stupid"
errr, well, anyway. I thought I would get through the day without jumping
on the soap box. Ha!
Have a good day, all.

Thanks Frank. I thought you had something new and was looking
for "packing slip" under reports. I am familiar with the sub
contract shipper, but it lists the final part instead of the
componenets being sent out. (Which matches what the PO does, but it
still is confusing to our subcontractors who work on a specific
componenet of a large assembly.)

We do use the sub contract shipper on some of our jobs where the
operation is late enough in the process so it looks like we are
shipping / receiving the final unit.

Thanks - Michael

Has anyone noticed that if you send parts out to outside processing
with a Days Out of X days, when you global finite schedule, it keeps
moving the start and due dates?

Ex. Send parts out for 3 Days Out on Monday. Then global finite
schedule on tuesday, and now it says due Friday instead of Thurs.
Then global finite schedule Wed., and its now due Monday.

Doesn't the system know that the packing slip means that it is
currently being worked on and not to reschedule those that are
already being worked on? (That box IS checked by the way)

Anyone else with this problem?

Thanks!
Ben
The Outside Processing seems to be fairly weak. Although you are
listing a subcontracted operation on the job, the PO lists the final
part instead of the specific process. The subcontracter has been
given drawing A for the specific process (which could be listed with
the operation), but receives a PO referencing a drawing B.

The subcontracted packing slip lists the final item instead of the
materials being sent. We are sending materials X, Y and Z in
quantities of 100, 200 and 300 to make 100 pieces of Part A. The
packing slip the subcontracter receives reads 100 pieces of Part A.

If the final part is serialized prior to shipping materials to the
subcontractor, the "inspect upon receipt" must be turned off. The
inspection process for a serialized part requires the serial number
at the time of inspection, but the Subcontracter Shipper does not
ask for a serial number. Since Vantage thinks none went out, a new
one has to be created coming in. We ended up creating an operation
called Inspection for these specific jobs.

Outside lot charges for multiple jobs (anodizing or plating, for
example) is impossible in 6.10. We have several outside process
where we pay a fixed amount regardless of which parts or what
quantities we send. We had to get pretty creative to make a PO that
reads "$90 Lot Charge" for 3 different quantities of 3 parts.

In many cases, we have used parts to capture the subcontacting
costs. What I am wanting Vantage to do with the outside processing
isn't as simple as I make it sound, but the "shiney was rubbed off
the subcontracting apple" very quickly. What Vantage does well, it
does very well. Subcontracted operations just isn't one of those
things. Maybe in 8.0 . . . . .

Don't forget the issue where you can't link raw materials to the subcontract
operation and have them be backflushed. Another drawback to the subcontract
processing.

No. I don't see it and don't remember it from implementation (it
was such a sleep-deprived time that we might have turned it off by
mistake). Is it an out-of-the-box report for 6.1?

It is under materials management - shipping receiving - general operations -

No. I don't see it and don't remember it from implementation (it
was such a sleep-deprived time that we might have turned it off by
mistake). Is it an out-of-the-box report for 6.1?

Thanks Frank. I thought you had something new and was looking
for "packing slip" under reports. I am familiar with the sub
contract shipper, but it lists the final part instead of the
componenets being sent out. (Which matches what the PO does, but it
still is confusing to our subcontractors who work on a specific
componenet of a large assembly.)

We do use the sub contract shipper on some of our jobs where the
operation is late enough in the process so it looks like we are
shipping / receiving the final unit.

Thanks - Michael
