In Method Directives and Data Directives when adding an email to the BPM designer there is the check box on the bottom that allows to send shortcut link with the email. What I’m finding is that a .sysconfig file is being sent. What I’m being told is that the user who receives the file needs to copy this sysconfig file into the Epicor cinfig directory then click on a preconfigured desktop shortcut to be led to the link in the email. My gut feeling is telling me that this is ridiculous and there has to be an easier way to do this. Nobody in his right senses will copy that sysconfig file to the directory just to get access to this one record. Any help?
You could get your IT guy to push file association down to each machine via a global policy. Then when the email is received, the computer will know what to do with the attachment and then the user will just click on it and Epicor will open.
really don’t know how well that would work because there are several .sysconfig files in the system and really you want to launch Epicor.exe with the .sysconfig file as a runtime argument…
The file association will run the Epicor Client with that particular config file.
You only have one Epicor Client per machine correct?
yes and no - Live for live - Pilot for testing
We’re currently in implementation
If you’d have more explicit instructions on tis that would be appreciated.
One additional thing you need to do is go into “Alert Attachment Maintenance” (Menu Path: System Management/Business Process Management/Alert Attachments), and edit the templates so that they point to the right databases. (took me YEARS to find this).
Per Epicor help:
Users that receive the alert or notification email can use the shortcut.sysconfig file to open the application directly to the specific record that caused the alert or notification. Users do this by saving the attached shortcut.sysconfig file within their client installation’s config folder (for example, C:\ERP10[version]\client\config). By using the CONFIG Run Time Argument for a desktop icon’s properties, the application will then launch and automatically display the program and the record associated with the alert or notification.
Just send the users a one page manual on how to associate .sysconfig with Epicor.exe.
Once their computer knows that .sysconfig should be opened with Epicor, all they have to do is double click the attachment in the email.
Epicor really expects end users to copy this attachment to the config folder and then change a parameter in the shortcuts target? Too funny.
