Steve:

This does not just impact the production detail report, it also
impacts the
WIP report, and when the "Final Operation" is completed, it
causes the job
to appear in the jobs completed queue for review by whomever it
is that
reviews them before they are marked complete and closed. When
they are
marked complete and closed, they fall off of the WIP report
(after the
Capture WIP is run), making that report a more accurate tool
for accounting
to calculate whatever it is they calculate...do you see I'm at
the end of
expertise?

Anyone who says that "Final Operation" box is UNIMPORTANT is
mistaken. If
you're really going to use Vantage, uh, eManufacturing, to do
what needs to
be done, this is a vital cog in your wheel.

Sorry if someone else answered already, I've been gone and am
just catching
up.

Wayne,
Thanks for the costing info re: the Production Detail Report.
We're
also just getting into job cost detail. We add a final
operation on
every job which we call Job Closing and it requires an entry
from the
last department supervisor to enter in the final completed
quantity on
each job to make sure we have the accurate and complete number
and the
final "operation complete" taken care of . The traveler also
asks the
supervisor to write comments on how the job went, problems, etc.
All
our completed travelers are reviewed by the QC for problem notes
before
being discarded so we can catch problems in advance of the next
run.

I don't think it affects scheduling. The one BIG impact
it has
is on the
Production Detail Report. It uses the reported qty
complete to
calculate
unit cost and profitability. Lots of our jobs have a
final op
like "final
inspection" or "packaging." The job may be running for
a long
time, and
partially completed before that op is touched, so if the
P.D. is
run, it
sees zero completed. By checking the last "real"
manufacturing
op as
"Final," the P.D. uses the quantity on it for its
calculations.
Mostly a
convenience thing if you keep an eye on costs during the
job's
run. Otherwise, we have to do a job adjustment to bump
up the
qty to get
meaningful numbers from the P.D. report.

unreleased first. Does

I think it lets you identify jobs that were configured
differently from the
part revision's router. Also possibly to spot rework
ops, or
other unusual
added costs? Just speculating on this one, I've just
started
getting into
a lot of detail on job costing.

The online help for both options seems to concur with
this,
though.

Thank you to all those who responded to my intial question on how to
put jobs on hold. For right now I shall just use unrelease method to
put a job on hold.

I would like to know what gets affected by not checking the final
operation box on the operation maintenance in job entry. Does it
affect the schedule in any form.

Also what is added operation check box used for. If any operation has
to added to a realeased job, it has to be unreleased first. Does it
show up on the priority dispatch list as an added operation.

Thanks

Venky
When we asked that question to our Epicor representative during
implementation, he said nothing happens either way. Vantage knows when
the final operation occurs regardless if the box is checked.
