Tooling Job Call Number 580630MPS Technical Support R

Lydia,

I wanted you to know Precision Resource added our name
to your call number.

To all others,

How NOT to try to add your name and how to try to add
your name to a call number from another company.

How NOT to:
Do not go to the epicor support website. When you drill
down to where you search for a call number, you can ONLY access those
generated by your own company. This seemed the most logical place to go
and I am baffled we cannot at least view and add our name to other
company's call numbers.

How to:
1) I called support after the above yielded no results. You can
add your name over the phone and have a call number posted to your
company that is linked to the original call number.
2) You can e-mail Tech Support. I did not have an address handy
and so this was not my first choice. Maybe someone can post the e-mail
address we should use for those of us who do not communicate on a
regular basis with Epicor.

Thanks,

Meike

Job Call Number 580630MPS Technical Support Reply

I am posting the call number for this
problem again. PLEASE e-mail Vantage tech support and mention this call
number so that we can get this situation fixed...it is a big effort for
most companies who make tooling or prototypes to use any of the
suggested work-arounds.

Lydia,

Thanks for the suggestion. There is a bug reported and I have updated it
with three possible work arounds. This issue is getting attention and will
be discussed at the next Vantage Forum next Friday. If others want to add
calls to this bug, it is document number 3018MPS in our database. See below
for detailed description and work around:

****************************************************************************

PAGE ID: 3018MPS

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Customer reports that they cannot select a warehouse when adding a qty on
the "Link Line Maint." in job header, when part is a non-part master part.
Customer was able to create a job demand link for a non-part master part in
3.00. In 4.00 they cannot select a valid warehouse to complete the link.
STEPS TO DUPLICATE:
Able to duplicate on MNTECH 3.00.631 and 4.00.811
1. Create a job in job entry, for part number type in "mytest" (or any
non part master part number of your choice), and enter a description.
2. Update the Demand link, select Make to Stock (type)
3. Try selecting a warehouse by clicking on Add. An error will appear:
"Part...is not on file. A warehouse cannot be added for a non-stock part."
4. Try selecting a warehouse by clicking on "Close". Then enter a
quantity.
When you click OK, the following error appears: "A valid warehouse is
required."
Customer's were able to do this in 3.00.631. Why can they not do this in
4.00?
A good suggestion would be to add another category such as Make to Other in
addition to Make to Stock, Make to Order, and Make to Job.
WORK AROUND OPTIONS:
1) Create a sales order for the non part master part for a value of $0.
You only need to do this once. Then link the job to the sales order. Even
if the part number is different, you can still link any job to it by adding
the link in Job Entry, but instead of using the browser to find the sales
order, just type in the sales order. Vantage will accept that. Leave this
sales order open, and all jobs (now and in the future) for non-part master
parts can then be linked to this sales order.
2) Create a job to stock in the following manner: Enter a part number
from the part master using the search browser and selecting any part.
Overtype the part number with any non-part master part number of your
choice. Enter a description and other appropriate information. Go down to
Add under Demand Links and add a quantity. Notice that the top of the
screen indicates that this is a Make to Order job. Ignore that, as there is
no order required in this case. Click OK, and then add any details you wish
to the job. You can now engineer, release, schedule, report labor, and
anything else you wish to this job.
3) Another alternative is to add a generic part to the part master such
as Tooling or Prototype, then put the actual part number in the description
on the job. Then this generic part could be used for all Tooling or all
Prototypes.

We had the same problem when we upgraded to 4.0. For a temporary fix which
seems to work, I entered a bogus sales order and every time I need a
different job, we enter a new line on the sales order. This will generate a

suggestion for a new job. This also keeps you from having to enter a part
number in the part master.
