Data conversion is complete!!! Took about an hour!
Just an FYI...
Wanted to convert to v5 this weekend. Ran the install, it went
ok. Ran the idxbuild - took about 1 hour. Currently running
schema change which was started 2-4-01 at 2:30pm EST. Going
on 19 hours now. Had to bring v4 back online. Can't leave
the business down all day. I'll have to try again some other
day. Tech support says the schema change will probably take
a long time. They don't know how long. Neither tech support
or us knows if it is really still running.
database is 2.3 gigs, runnning on dual 700Mhz pentium3 with
1 gig ram. Crash protection is turned off.

Joe,
What is your harddrive configuration. When we ran our schema change (test
install) it only took a couple hours. Our database is 800 MB. This is
smaller than yours I realize but 19 hours doesn't seem right.

I performed a V5 install on a test bed machine. I had to go from 3 to 5. I
recreated V3, Converted to 4, ran schema, then converted to V5 and ran
schema. From start to finish duration was about 6 hours, with no bugs. 450
Mhz pentium 3, 128 meg of ram, 130 meg data base, V5 schema finished in
less than an hour.

Joe,
We had this same problem when attempting to load the
software on a test system. Started the schema change, came
back after the New Years weekend, and it was still running,
96 hours+. After talking with Mark Engemann, and Vantage
support, the best solution is to use a Provision option to connect
to the database. Do you have Provision? If you do, you can
change the connect options from what is in the schema change.vtg
file to -1. This allowed our schema change to run in about 2 hours.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Database is about 1 GB. Test Server Pent III 600 with 512 MB RAM,
single 18GB Drive, 100 Base T Network adapter

Ok... I started the schema change in single user mode and it
flew! It took about a minute! Now I'm running data conversions.
We'll see!
