Win2000 server and terminal services vs. Citrix

""The response will largely depend on the server you pick,"""

To add a little more to this. When we went with Citrix for our Mexico
office the advice was to buy the best server you can. Memory and CPU are
very important on how things run, (along with the line speed, using 768k).
We are using a W2K server that has dual 700Mhz Xeon processors and 1.3GB
memory, (thanks to a good deal at the time). We are also using this system
to run a simple web page.

We are doing voice over IP along with the data. We call the Mexico office
like an extension in our own office, really saves those international
charges.

We are really close in distance, Tipp City Oh. If you need anything else
give me a call. I had a consulting company help with this installation, but
may be able to help you out.

Printing: We print to the Mexico printer and they can print to our printers,
just like any other network printer. It's pretty cool.

1) Does Win2000 TS support remote printing, or from a user's perpective,
local printing? I have been told both Yes and No. What's right? It has
been suggested that I will need Citrix to do this and would add about
$5,000. to the cost. Anyone care to discuss?

It supports remote printing. With Win2k Pro workstations the printer is
configured automatically and you do not need to setup TC license server.

2) Given the communications parameters (1.5m SDSL on my end, 768k T1 on the
remote) what kind of response times would be typical? How much latency can
I
expect. For those will experience, is it likely that the folks in Charlotte
would be satisfied with this setup. I don't expect to get the same speed as
a local user, but what would be reasonable to expect?

The response will largely depend on the server you pick, if the server is
not a the slowest part of the configuration the performance even over a
dial up internet is quite reasonable (30 seconds to load, couple seconds
between screens).
I have a user in Texas that I am supporting out of Milwaukee and he seems
perfectly happy. If you have additional questions feel free to call me.
